Hi - I’m Liz. I’m a San Diego-based scientist. I have a background in virology and spent just over two years working on developing gene therapy vectors at an early stage biotech startup. Now, I am doing some advising while I look for full time opportunities.

My research expertise focuses on identifying strategies viruses use to subvert signals that naturally regulate gene expression, allowing them to take control of the cellular translation machinery and enforce viral protein synthesis. Entirely reliant on the host cell to support translation of virus transcripts, viruses provide a powerful tool for studying how manipulation of factors that regulate gene expression converge to maintain homeostasis and how disruption of these processes contribute to disease states. Directing virus-mediated translation control can even provide therapeutic potential in the form of gene therapy vectors and oncolytic viruses.

When I’m not thinking about viruses, I enjoy running and accidentally killing my plants through overwatering.
